Newell James Crookston (1890-1976) grew up in North Logan, Utah. He attended Utah State University and was a farmer, teacher, and principal of the North Logan School. Later he became the Cache County Clerk and was employed by Utah State University in a variety of capacities. He is perhaps best known for writing the short book, "The Story of Old Ephraim," and he was the author of several other pieces on Cache Valley history as well.
